Are you thinking of buying a DVD Burner?

DVD Burners, also known as DVD Writers, DVD Recorders, or DVD-Recordable drives are able to read CDs and DVDs, and write to one or more recordable disc formats (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, or DVD-RAM... and usually CD-R/CD-RW as well).

Right now, there are only a few models out.  All sell for less than $300 retail price, and all are IDE internal drives.  Some of these drives are packaged by other companies and sold by different names, although it is fairly obvious who was the original equipment manufacturer when you check out the specifications of the drive.

To be more precise, there are only a few different drives available, but some of these drives are sold by other companies under a different model name.

If you would prefer an external drive, you can buy these drives mounted in a USB 2.0 or Firewire external case, or you can buy the case and mount the drive in it yourself.  USB 1.0 is too slow to support a DVD Burner.

Sony just announced their upcoming models, and Pioneer is expected to announce their next model (the DVR-A06) soon, with similar specs to the new Sony model.
