A high-speed serial data transmission standard, developed by Apple Computer and adopted by the IEEE as specification IEEE-1394.  This system is ideal for the transfer of digital video signals, such as DV, and it is usually found in DV camcorders.  Sony has licensed this standard and branded it "i-Link".  Apple was awarded an Emmy Engineering award for Firewire in 2001.
